Scarlett toured the school with Palin.
There were five subjects: physics, mathematics, civil engineering, mechanical engineering, and chemistry.
The three professors taught all the subjects indiscriminately, and the students taught them all, but there were no lectures on mechanical engineering.
Scarlett stood in front of the Crimson family's laboratory, which had been set up with their donation.
On the door, it was written:
[Wendy Crimson and Willis Crimson Laboratory]
[In honor of the greatest inventors in Salantir's history]
There was a red lock.
Scarlett immediately remembered the password her mother had mentioned, entered the numbers, and the lock opened.
When she opened the door, she saw walls covered in research materials.
Scarlett remembered visiting this laboratory as a child.
One of the places in her memories was with her parents.
I suddenly felt a severe headache, so I stumbled.
Balin rushed to support her and asked: “Are you okay?”
“I'm fine, sorry”
Balin let go of her hand and shook his head: “It’s okay.”
“I'm sorry you're hurting because of me.”
“I don't want to burden you, but...”
Balin rubbed his neck and added, “After coming here, I realize even more that Salantir’s fate depends on you.”
“Why did you say you didn't want to burden me then?”
“It was unintentional”
Scarlett laughed softly, then took a deep breath and looked at the laboratory.
Most materials were coded.
She remembered her parents talking about codes, but her memories were not clear.
She held her head and said: “If only my memories were clearer...”
Balin looked at her.
After a moment of frustration, Scarlett took a deep breath and said, "Are you hungry?
Let's eat something simple."
“Okay, but I don’t know if there is food nearby, especially after seeing those struggling with the jam jar.”
“Indeed”
Scarlett left the lab.
Palin called someone, and found a decent restaurant.
The food of the North was of lower quality than the South, but it was acceptable if one knew it.
After lunch, Scarlett returned to school, greeted the teachers, shook their hands, and then saw the Domfelts' carriage in front of the school.
Professors and students came out to watch it, as there wasn't much entertainment.
Heaters, curtains and blankets were lowered into the laboratory
Blight got out of the carriage, smiling as usual: “By chance, everyone is here.
Take what you need, except for Miss’s things.
We brought warm wine and cheese, would you like?”
Most of the students were genuinely interested in science, and were not family heirs, as their parents usually forbade them.
Choosing the Faculty of Engineering at Salantir meant dissatisfaction with the family, as well as the professors.
Everyone rushed to the cart to get what they needed.
“Finally, a fireplace!”
“Can we bake bread now?”
Scarlett had a hard time living, but she secretly ran the fire to bake bread.
While looking in amazement, Kirsten approached: “Scarlett, tell us what you need, we will help you!”
“Thanks.
I...”
Scarlett tried to approach Kirsten, the only student, but she heard Palin grumble: “These scientists didn't even think about making a fireplace.”
The students looked at him with mixed expressions.
Kirsten bravely exclaimed: “Now we have a female engineer, we can implement anything!”
“Miss didn't come to make fireplaces.
I said they were precious.”
“Ah...”
Kirsten made a strange sound and turned around.
Balin groaned, standing like a statue.
He was used to hearing criticism for his honesty, but among ordinary people, he was a true soldier.
Even among them, Victor was dominant, everyone knew him as a leader.
Scarlett looked at the items Victor had arranged.
She suddenly felt cold, blew her hands, and said to Balin and Blight: “Thank you.
I’ll go in now, it’s cold.”
Blight laughed cheerfully: “Okay, I’ll leave now.”
Blight left with the cart.
Scarlett laughed in amazement and said to Palin, “It was an exaggerated farewell.”
Palin laughed: “Yes, it's hard to be that big.”
“Studying quietly has become impossible.”
“Indeed, I didn't expect it to be this small.”
They talked as they entered the laboratory.
It was snowing all day at the school site.
In the Crimson family laboratory, while Scarlett was pouring a warm glass of wine, Professor Gustav was thinking about her design on the blackboard, and so were the students.
Having people discuss issues with her was supportive of Scarlett.
Bill, who greeted her by talking about genes, and Kirsten were studying the same topic.
Kirsten raised her hand and said, “Scarlett, can you share the watch technology with us?
It’s the Crimson family’s technology.”
Scarlett couldn't get everyone involved in something as dangerous as aircraft research, and she didn't trust them yet.
So, she chose general topics related to watch technology.
She distributed the wine starting with the professor and said, “Of course.
I came to understand this technique more deeply.”
“Wow… you are truly the Miss Crimson I imagined…”
“Kirsten, don't make this embarrassing.”
Gustav asked curiously: “Kirsten, what did you imagine?”
“Well, I imagined Count Crimson and his wife working every day in the laboratory to continue their great achievements.
I didn’t know there was a daughter, it was a fantasy, but it’s real now.”
Scarlett responded in amazement: “How could you not know when you were interested in the Crimson family?
My marriage and divorce were in the newspapers...”
“Scarlett, I don't read gossip, it's unnecessary.
Anyway, the only rest in Miss Crimson's day is watching the weather out the window.”
“What were you imagining, Kirsten?”
Scarlett couldn't bear it and asked, but Kirsten continued: “Then the miss who is busy researching will get tuberculosis.”
“Why TB?”
“Because intellectuals always get TB,” Kirsten replied in amazement.
“This is less clear...”
The three looked at her as if she didn't understand.
After the meeting, Scarlett packed her bag and left the school.
She spent her days between the store and school, very busy.
As the weekend approached, she finished shop work, planning to rest today and have dinner with Isaac tomorrow.
Issac was busy with Crimson family matters, especially the bank affairs.
I planned to ask him for help during dinner.
But before that...
“I should thank him”
She mumbled while waiting for the tram.
Since Victor had helped her so much, she felt she should inform him of the progress.
But she wondered if she wanted to see him because of residual feelings.
I took the tram to the capital.
From the engineering college to the capital, there were boring plains covered with snow, not interesting.
In this boredom, Scarlett put her thoughts in order, for which she had not found time lately.
But one name kept coming up:
Victor Domfelt.
Victor Domfelt.
How many times had she called him at the monastery while suffering from a fever?
“Just once, come early for your appointment.
Break your plan once.
Love me with your heart just once.”
I hated him for a long time.
But as her thoughts deepened, his name got stuck in her throat.
She tried to ignore it, but it still hurt her.
