Calen Castle

In Duke Martin's testimony, Sylvia shook her head to the point that her heart stopped beating.
“So what His Highness’s maid said is right?”
When Oswald pretended to be surprised and asked, Duke Martin shook his head.
“I don't know who His Highness's maid is, so I have nothing to say about it.
I’m just here to make it right, because I heard a different story from the scene I witnessed.”
Killian glared at Sylvia and asked Duke Martin, “Are you sure that Viscount Chaister’s daughter was beaten by someone other than a maid?”
“Yes, Your Majesty.
I saw it clearly.
The person was wearing a hood, but it was a woman in a dress.
So, I thought it was just a fight between the maids.”
When the duke's confirmation began to create murmurs within the hall, Killian raised his hand to calm the loudly speaking crowd.
“Lady Chaister, your words and the Duke’s testimony are quite different.
What's the problem?
I don’t think Duke Martin lied to you.”
“Sylvia, what the hell is going on here?
Your Highness, something is wrong.” Viscount Chaister scolded his daughter, who was unable to refute the testimony of a powerful figure who suddenly appeared.
“Stop, it’s scandalous.
Lady Chaister, tell me the truth about what this is about.”
Sylvia gaped like a fish, speechless.
She had to say what she had prepared, just in case, for those who were waiting for her answer, but her mouth wouldn't move.
The Prince was always carefree about maids, and Sylvia thought it would be easy to take a maid from him, but she was suddenly distracted by the conversation around her, the Prince's horrifying look, and her fear of what she had done.
She wanted to believe what the Baroness had said: “If things go wrong, I will take care of you.”
But she wondered if it was possible to use such a trick against the Duke.
If she admitted that the Duke was right right here, she was dead!
Sylvia wanted to look back at Pamela, who was behind her, but continued: “I don't know what Your Excellency saw, but I thought I was beaten by the maid.
It was dark and after I said that, suddenly someone hit me on the head.
I was hit in the head, fell and was hit so badly that I couldn't even lift my face.
That's why I thought, of course, the maid who was with me hit me.”
Sylvia was shaking and finished speaking.
“Then why didn’t you say that when the prisoner complained of injustice and when Albert told me what the maid had seen?
After a witness appears, you say it was so dark that you misperceived.
You wouldn't have pressed on without having a plot in mind.
Isn’t that true, Your Highness?”
At Valerian's question, Killian's cold gaze turned to the crowd, and then he turned to Viscount Chaister.
“I’ll have to investigate from now on.”
Christine bit her lip as she looked at Killian, who was looking through the people with sharp eyes.
She didn't expect that Duke Martin had seen it yesterday.
She was distraught enough to cry tears of disappointment, but she hoped her show might have changed her mind a little.
Maybe this could happen again in the future.
She felt a little better when she thought about what she could do to create such an opportunity.
“Sylvia Chaister, you testified before, as soon as you told her why she shouldn't go through the front gate, she hit you in the face in a straight line.
And you showed me the bruise on your face.
But now you said that you were suddenly hit in the head and you didn't know who hit you.
How are you going to explain this since your words are inconsistent?”
However, no one failed to notice the warning contained in the friendly tone.
Sylvia glanced at her father slightly.
Her eyes grew darker at the thought that she was putting her family in danger.
She thought:
‘If I get out of here safely, my father and the Baroness will do something’
, and looked back because of it.Seeing her father, who seemed to want answers from her, she looked up again at the prince sitting on the podium.
When their eyes met, the silver eyes glittered for a moment and bowed gently.
Trembling in the moment for a rare smile, Sylvia beamed face to face with anticipation.
However, she was immediately frustrated by what he said.
“If you tell the truth, I will save your family.
I promise.
You better not make my anger worse here.”
Viscount Chaister himself could not believe what had just happened.
He thought the situation was complicated and expected a precise explanation from his daughter's lips, but the situation was serious.
He hurriedly protested, thinking he would have trouble with the Prince's words.
“Your Highness, what a terrible thing you mentioned!
There was a misunderstanding because she didn't see it clearly, but you mentioned the death of the family.
There were no major incidents, and only one commoner was put in prison for a while.
It couldn't have been done on purpose.
But you are persecuting my daughter and my family.”
“Chase…?
An innocent woman would have lost her life in my castle, and that's no big deal?
And this just happened because of a misunderstanding?
That's what only you and your daughter would think among the people here.
Isn’t that true?”
Oswald quickly responded to Killian’s words: “Your Highness, it is even more suspicious with the viscount’s insistence.
No matter who hears it, it must have been planned to trap his maid, but he insists it's a misunderstanding.
I doubt your intentions.”
“Please put him in prison for now.
Sylvia Chaister's failure is obvious, so we will have to gradually discover whether the Viscount is behind it, or whether there is someone else.”
Sylvia turned blue at Duke Martin's words.
'Chain?
No way!
I need to talk to the Baroness as soon as I get out of here!’
* * * * *
When she discussed this with Sylvia, she told her to put on an air of innocence and leave the place if something went wrong, no matter what.
She had assured him that she would take care of everything after that.
So, Sylvia would try to get out of here and see her.
Now that she knew what would happen if she confessed the truth, Sylvia would try to resist until the end.
But it was unclear how long it would last.
Pamela muttered while looking at Sylvia's back in the middle of the hall.
“Just one chance, it’ll be fine, if I just have one chance…”
Hearing Pamela's murmur, Sylvia's body staggered and collapsed helplessly on the spot.
“Sylvia.”
Killian raised his hand to stop Viscount Chaister, who was about to run away when he saw his daughter lying down.
“The viscount, you and your daughter will be locked in the castle, with no contact until the facts are revealed.
Take them both.
Report to me as soon as the sinner wakes up.”
Killian watched the knights and maids pick up the viscount and his daughter, then rose from his seat.
Coming down from the podium himself, he greeted Duke Martin, went to Marquis Anais and stopped.
“Marquis Anais, I wonder if you know about the offer your daughter proposed today.”
When Killian asked, the marquis looked back at Christine as if he was thinking.
“Well, I guess you didn't hear.
So let me say this briefly.
Marquis, I don't want you to lie for me and I don't want to forgive you for trying to risk yourself under the pretext of lying.
Therefore, you will have to make sure that I do not remind you of this in the future.” At the word “lie”, the Marquis’s face hardened.
He looked at Christine, wondering what he was talking about, but she was looking at the Prince, who had come to speak so aggressively.
