# Chapter 16
Chapter 16
“A burn?
Before Vera could say anything else, a doctor came in seeking an audience with Rezef.
It was the same doctor who treated Cayena's wounds.
He shivered as he entered, feeling the strange atmosphere in the air.
“I came to report on His Highness’s injuries.
Rezef's cold blue eyes focused on the doctor.
The doctor felt a cold sweat running down his back.
Rezef's look was the one he gave when he wasn't in a good mood.
“An uncooled pie touched his left arm, but the actual burn is about the size of a fist.
As long as she applies ointment over the next few days, she won't have a scar.
“That's it.
When the doctor was unable to respond, Vera opened her mouth.
“A court lady, Lydia Benzeman, dropped her pie plate.
He touched his arm and fell to the ground.
Considering that she had caused harm to the imperial family, Cayena would have been within her rights to ask for Lydia's death.
However, it would be a waste to do so as the Benzeman family was very helpful.
Furthermore, the Benzeman family was close to the Evans family, as it was the family that managed the Empire's warehouses.
“But.
His Highness forgave her, said she was fine.
Zenon had an incredulous look on her face when Vera said that the feisty Cayea had forgiven her lady-in-waiting.
Indeed, the recent Princess Cayena was very strange.
Anyway, it was lucky.
Zenon stood behind Rezef, so he couldn't see the prince's face.
“The Benzeman family still has a lot of use.
It is fortunate that the incident is being forgotten.
But Rezef thought differently.
He hated those who didn't know their place.
It reminded him of Archduke Heinrich.
Rezef stood up and said coldly:
“I'm going to Cayena's palace.
To get to the princess's palace from the prince's palace, one had to walk a long way through a corridor between them.
Rezef covered this long distance with his long legs and a cloak flowing behind him.
He wasn't running, but it was a very brisk walk.
His aides and Vera rushed to follow closely behind him.
Rezef found the room where Cayena's ladies-in-waiting were resting and opened the door with his own hand.
“Your Highness!
I will!
— One of his assistants, who managed to follow his steps, got scared and tried to dissuade him.
Rezef didn't respond, just opening the room that was the second best in the palace after Cayena's.
The ladies who were resting stood up in surprise.
“Your Highness?
His eyes saw the overly colorful interior and the refreshments and tea on the table that seemed beyond his means.
The incense burner gave off an expensive smell, originally used by Cayena.
It was a sophisticated fragrance imported only in small quantities to the Empire.
The smell was unique, so Rezef knew it well.
A mere court lady could never wear such a fragrance.
They were enjoying luxuries they could not enjoy as ladies-in-waiting.
This was not something Rezef had allowed.
The ladies-in-waiting hurriedly adjusted their attire and lowered their heads.
“We salute Your Imperial Highness.
Rezef didn't tell them to raise their heads.
Instead, he sat on a display case near him.
His eyes swept over the maids.
Vera and her helpers tried to enter the room, but their feet stopped at the strange silence.
“I think a person can make foolish judgments,” he began to say.
“I think a person can also make mistakes.
The court ladies exchanged glances, not knowing what he was talking about.
“However, I hate those who don't know their place.
Only then did the court ladies throw themselves to the ground.
“We did something worthy of death, Your Highness!
— With that, Rezef burst into laughter.
“Yes!
You are right.
His blue eyes glowed murderously.
“You should be dead for your sins.
Rezef crossed the room in long strides and roughly grabbed a court lady.
It was Lydia.
“I have never heard of a member of the Imperial family being burned by a maid.
What do you think?
Lydia turned pale.
“Your Highness, please forgive me!
— In her fear, she even began to cry.
“It was a mistake, Your Highness!
The princess also said that everything is fine, and…!
— But she shouldn't have said that.
“Ahhhh!
— Rezef squeezed Lydia's arm, as if it wereand break it.
“Do I have to cut off your arm for you to see the seriousness of your mistake?
How much should I cut for you?
Shiiiing.
He pulled out a sword from his side.
The court ladies let out a short cry.
Shouldn't someone stop this?
But no one came forward.
“Your Highness.
Zenon advanced among the advisors to dissuade him.
But witnessing Rezef's expression, he clicked his tongue and backed away.
In this state, Rezef could not be dissuaded by anyone.
At this rate, it wouldn't be surprising if this turned into a major incident.
“Rezef.
— Then, a clear voice broke the ominous air.
Cayena came personally after hearing the commotion.
Rezef stopped his hand, which was about to swing his sword.
“Stop it.
At her words, Rezef loosened his grip on Lydia, as if he had never intended to hurt her in the first place.
He lowered the sword.
When Lydia, released from his hand, fell to the ground, everyone stopped breathing.
There was a hushed silence.
“…what just happened?”
Cayena calmed Rezef, who was furious, with just one word!
Cayena walked past the helpless assistants and entered the room.
The sword was pointing at the ground, but Rezef still had a look of madness.
Lydia seemed to have completely pulled the trigger on Rezef.
“Know your place.”
This is how Emperor Esteban created Rezef.
It seemed that Rezef, who was unbalanced, didn't understand exactly why he was so angry.
Cayena approached Rezef, who was still holding his sword as if he wanted to cut something.
People thought that figure was murderous.
But that's not what Cayena saw.
He was nervous.
Cayena learned about the situation that Rezef had experienced through the novel.
Therefore, although Rezef was considered an unforgivable villain, she could understand why he had become like this.
If he wasn't constantly recognized as a prince, he might be dismissed immediately.
The emperor himself had told him this.
Instead of enjoying his position as a prince, he was deprived of many things.
To begin with, he was deprived of a family.
“You don't have a family.
You only have identity and autonomy when you are a prince.
Rezef was completely thrown away in the most splendid and beautiful place in the Empire.
“Remember, I can always throw away my luggage.
If you do not prove your worth, your existence will be erased from the world.
For him, conquering the throne was a direct matter of survival.
He had no family and all the people around him belonged to the Emperor.
They ignored Rezef, an illegitimate son.
So the first thing he did was purge them.
That's what happened when he was just eight years old.
It was a part of her past that Cayena didn't know about.
But he was still her little brother.
Cayena stood before him, feeling some sense of responsibility.
She took the sword from Rezef's hand and held it out to Zenon, who was nearby.
Zenon looked at her with perplexed eyes and received the sword from her.
The ladies-in-waiting were shaking and she could hear Lydia's breathless sobs.
It was a regrettable act.
Cayena looked at Rezef with eyes that looked normal, as if nothing was different from normal.
He needed someone to guide him.
She scolded him in a stern voice.
“What if you hurt yourself by being so angry?
You will hunt frequently once the social season begins.
Rezef gradually began to come back to his senses.
The court ladies and attendants, unaware of this change, simply looked at Cayena sternly.
“Was His Imperial Highness crazy?”
They swallowed, feeling their mouths go dry.
They were afraid of what Rezef, who was completely angry, would do.
