# Chapter 9
Chapter 9
After an hour and 20 more minutes, Bunny finally opened her eyes with a pale face.
As Bunny spread her hand, a pure white light floated up and burst.
“Whoa!!”
Admiration sounded from all around.
Thud, clunk.
The spreading light gradually faded, and something fell to the ground, rolling to Bunny’s feet.
The murmuring of the admiring crowd abruptly stopped.
An egg…
No, it was a quail egg.
‘Total disaster…’
In Bunny’s imagination, the lined-up potential fathers smirked and turned their backs on her, walking away.
“Not good…”
Thud.
Bunny ended up kneeling in front of the quail egg.
The moment Bunny touched the orb, her hand was quickly pulled in, and her world changed instantly.
She was flying on clouds.
Bunny floated above a sea of clouds, surrounded by mysterious lights.
The lights were beautiful and colorful.
‘This!
Light!’
Bunny then realized that these lights were the same as the ones in the children’s hands.
Pushing through the gathering lights, Bunny’s eyes sparkled.
She instinctively knew that a dragon was here.
‘Huge light!’
Bunny stretched out her clenched right hand to move forward and flapped her feet while lying down.
She started moving ahead.
Bunny began avoiding the numerous lights approaching her and searched for the dragon.
“What is Ruri, the Enfa Ray’s black flame dragon?”
“Huh?
Oh, the black flame dragon on the left arm?
Oh… um… it’s a very powerful black dragon next to the Demon King.
Um… having the black flame dragon on the left arm gives you immense courage and the ability to do anything.”
“Wow…”
The black flame dragon on the left arm!
Bunny’s eyes sparkled.
If it was a black flame dragon, it would definitely be black light.
With that single thought, Bunny pretended not to notice the many brilliant lights approaching her and continued searching through the white clouds.
How long did she search by flapping her feet?
Bunny discovered a small black light in a secluded tree.
It was a small light, but it was black.
“Got it!!”
The black flame dragon on the left arm!
Wait for me!
As Bunny’s eyes sparkled at the black light, she ran eagerly and reached out her hand.
A white and red light suddenly rushed in and entered Bunny’s hand.
“Huh…?”
Blink, blink.
Bunny blinked her bright eyes a couple of times.
She turned her head to look at the black light that was trembling and then looked back at the white and red light forced into her hand.
“No!!”
Just as Bunny was about to let go of the light she was holding,
The world suddenly seemed to flip, and Bunny’s small body was pulled downward.
“Uwaa!
My black flame dragon…!”
Bunny’s cry of distress floated above the sea of clouds.
Of course, Bunny never got the black flame dragon—presumably.
Sniff.
Sniff.
Bunny swallowed her tears while holding the egg… no, the quail egg.
“Black flame dragon…”
Her voice was filled with so much sorrow.
“Bunny… it’s a total failure…”
Sob.
Seeing Bunny sobbing with her face buried in her white uniform while holding her legs, Lorden Heiner looked at Jessi, unsure of what to do.
Luri, liar.
Not impressive at all.
Still, the thing I got in my hand was huge and bright, so I thought it would be something really big when summoned, but it was much smaller than my palm.
It was even smaller than an egg.
It was the smallest egg I had ever seen.
"Little one, you know, if you leave the orphanage and get adopted, you need to make sure you find a guardian.
It doesn’t have to be a dad; it just has to be an adult who will be with you until you grow up."
Dad's plan failed.
"Burni... can’t read human letters, and there’s no dragon...
Becoming the big evil king is a secret..."
...Does that make Burni completely ordinary?
No dad would want Burni.
There was no story in Luriel where a powerful demon dad loved a child with no abilities.
"Burni is not real but a future great evil king..."
Still, Luriel said a guardian is necessary.
Even if it’s not a dad, making a guardian is okay.
Even a fake needs to find some strength.
"Nothing can be done."
Sniff.
Burni rubbed her eyes and quickly shook off the sadness.
Burni’s tears and snot left marks on Roden Heiner’s pants.
"Next is the money-money strategy!"
The plan was that rich kids would always liked.
Luriel used to tell stories from novels like <The Hated Bastard Demon Lord Becomes the Richest on the Continent?!>, <How I Became Rich at 4>, and <Self-Made Rich Life Starting from 3-Year-Old Demon>!
Changing the goal from adoption to finding a guardian, Burni sniffled and wiped her nose.
Sniff.
Burni wiped her tears with her sleeve and glanced around.
As expected, no dad candidates were in line.
Burni let go of the leg that was perfect for hugging, rubbed her eyes, and looked around.
If no dad candidates were in line, then Burni would have to go find them!
Sniff.
Burni swallowed her reddened nose and recalled what Luriel had said.
Good-looking people...
Burni rubbed her eyes a few times and then slowly scanned the surroundings.
She locked eyes with one person sitting in the main seat and froze.
Burni’s eyes widened.
Sparkling red eyes.
Jet-black hair.
And...
“He’s so handsome...!”
Passed!
Burni stamped an imaginary approval in her head.
Because all the big, strong dads in the fairy tales Burni knew had black hair and red eyes.
And, as Luriel said, he was also handsome, so he definitely passed.
“Burni’s guardian!”
It might be hard to get a dad with nothing special about her right now, but maybe a guardian would be possible.
Of course, while Burni was lost in imagination, the unprecedented situation of drawing what seemed like an unborn mythical beast egg had made the surroundings very quiet.
Ludbride Udia, with narrowed eyes, stood up from his seat in silence.
“Thank you all for your hard work with the summoning ritual.
I will hold separate interviews later, so let’s finish for today.”
With the duke’s words signaling the end, everyone watching stood up from their seats.
“Also, please attend the dinner party tonight if you can.
It would be nice to catch up with those who haven’t seen their children in a while.”
With a cool voice, Ludbride Udia stood up and quickly disappeared.
As soon as Ludbride Udia left, the children who had been standing gracefully all jumped up and started running out.
At the same time, some of the people sitting around quickly descended the stairs.
It was just as Burni turned her head in confusion.
