Calen Castle
–
After patting her empty stomach to comfort herself, she left the maid's quarters and was heading back to the main castle, where a shrill voice called out from behind her, “Who's there?
I haven't seen you before.
What are you doing here?”
It was Castle Calen's maid, Baroness Pamela Lanolf.
Pamela was at her wits end.
Due to the complaints of the Viscountess, the Prince's lover, she had been called to Rezen Castle since the morning, so she could not go out to greet the Prince, ruler of the Principality.
Furthermore, it was desperate to think of seeing Sir Albert, the grand chamberlain, who did not like her.
Pamela barely consoled the Viscountess, thinking that the old man would soon retire and that her nephew, Jeff, would soon be the grand chamberlain, and then she would get out of this tedious war of nerves.
Immediately after this, she placed behind her the maids, which she carried with her to greet the returning prince, and went to the Oval Room of the main castle, where she was told the prince was.
A maid she saw for the first time was wandering around.
There was no chance of an outsider entering the heavily guarded main castle, so she could only be one of the owner's group members who returned, but she couldn't think of her as a member of the group at all after looking at the thick appearance from behind.
Although she had a long way to go, the Baroness, who felt that she should clarify where she belonged in order to avoid any accidents that might occur, called the maid in front of her.
When she saw the maid turn around, she opened her mouth in astonishment, and the maids who followed her made a scene.
“Did you call me?” As soon as she turned around and saw the women with disapproving faces, Juliet slowly began to get irritated by the repeated reactions.
‘Don’t they know how foolish it is to judge a person just by their appearance?’
She managed to keep her mouth shut as she squirmed, as they were shocked that someone like her had appeared where she shouldn't be.
It took a while for Juliet to try to introduce herself after bowing as politely as possible in accordance with etiquette, as Johanna, the head waitress at Harrods Street, had taught her.
The woman in front of him suddenly became angry.
“Oh my God!
How could this happen?
How did someone like you get into this castle?
Where the hell do you belong?”
If she had waited a little, she would have responded well, but she interrupted her speech and she felt something even worse.
Juliet, however, politely announced her affiliation.
“I am Juliet Salmon, who is serving His Highness Killian of Austern, the master of Bertino.”
Once again, the Baroness grimaced again, watching as she casually squirmed, lifting her glasses that had come down to the tip of her nose as she bowed deeply.
“I'm really amazed.
How can a maiden like you serve His Highness?
This can be fatal to your dignity.
What the hell did Sir Albert do?
I'm sure he did something as ridiculous as this, believing in His Highness's favor.
I will tell His Highness about this situation immediately.”
She was offended by the strange eyes' expression for some time, as if they were seeing a monster carrying an infectious disease.
Juliet, who felt guilty about the Baroness' criticism, was powerless at her final judgment.
“What are you doing?
Be sure to stay in your quarters until there is further order so that people do not see you.”
Juliet sighed unconsciously.
This wasn't her true self, but she couldn't help but be hurt by the eyes of those who were shocked and disgusted every time they saw her.
Now she didn't think that if she took off this disguise... It really hurt her heart to think that her disguised appearance was herself.
After bowing to the noble lady with a fierce expression in front of her, Juliet turned around and a maid of the Baroness, Celine, opened her mouth.
“How could she work as His Highness’s maid like that?
Sir Albert was very strict about this and that, and was looking for a maid, but did he really choose her as a maid?
This is a strong case for appealing to His Highness.”As if to console the surprised Baroness, Celine spoke ill of the maid she had just seen, and Rosalyn, the other maid, also agreed enthusiastically.
“I think Sir Albert's eyes look horrible when I see the maid changing every time His Highness comes back.
Since His Highness didn't like them, he must have changed every time.
Jeff, the maid's nephew, needs to take over as the grand valet.”
Jeff, who was her nephew, was not a nobleman, because the man his sister married was a man with title but no land.
However, Pamela had worked as a maid to Duchess Irene, the Prince's mother, and was knighted for her own abilities, so she was able to rise to the position of head maid at Castle Calen.
The first thing she did as soon as she became the maid was to place her nephew as the prince's servant.
Unlike the prince's private maids, who were changed from time to time, Jeff had been in the position of the prince's servant for several years, being protected by Pamela.
Now, when old Sir Albert retired, Jeff would succeed him in his post as grand chamberlain.
That way, Jeff could obtain the title of Baron and she could truly be number one at Castle Calen without having to see the face of Sir Albert or any other grand chamberlain.
The maid of a moment ago was a golden opportunity to express Sir Albert's incompetence to the Baroness for such a purpose.
Then she made more of a fuss, as if something big had happened.
With a satisfied smile, Pamela rushed to the Oval Office to meet the Prince.
“Your Highness, welcome back.
Please forgive my disloyalty in not seeing you Your Highness, as you had something to work on at Rezen Castle.”
Killian frowned at the godmother and the maids who accompanied her, who looked up and bowed to him as if they were shy.
On her mother's recommendation, he gave her the title and allowed her to serve as a maid, but Killian disliked her as she always seemed to be calculating and greedy.
“It has been a long time, Baroness Lanolf.”
Pamela hurried to speak, as if to attract the Prince's attention, who nodded curtly and looked away: “Your Highness, I met your personal maid.
You don’t know how surprised I was to see you.”
He looked at the Baroness again with the words 'your personal maid', after turning away as he apathetically received her greeting.
Marquis Oswald and Count Adam, who didn't pay much attention to Pamela's greeting, were also interested in what happened.
When Pamela got the attention she wanted, she stopped talking for dramatic effect and placed her hand near her heart as if surprised.
“How horrible the appearance of a maiden who serves Your Highness can be!
I was so surprised how Sir Albert managed to keep such a maid at Your Highness's side.
I was so worried if it was time for him to retire.”
The maids who were behind the Baroness looked at each other, as if this was really impossible.
Count Adam stood up when he saw Killian, who watched him without saying a word.
“Oh, the Baroness!
The former maid left in a hurry, and Jeff's accident overlapped, so she would serve as a temporary employee for now.
It’s not Sir Albert’s fault.”
“What do you mean by ‘an accident’?
Where did Jeff get hurt?!
That’s why I can’t see you now!”
Adam interrupted the Baroness's words when she forgot that she was in front of the Prince and made a big fuss over surprise trifles.
“I don’t know the details, so listen carefully to Sir Albert later.
In any case, it was all circumstances that led the maid to serve His Highness.”
