The Fake Priest

After that day, Dana slept for two days straight.Maybe it’s because I used my purification power after such a long time.Perhaps the strain on her body caused her to sleep as if the power had been switched off.

When she woke up, thankfully, Allice had already returned to the capital. And the chaotic situation in the territory had been more or less brought under control.

Eighteen dead, thirty injured. Among the deceased was a boy of just nine years old. Dana remembered that boy. He was the one who used to cling to her skirt and smile shyly.

“Saintess, thank you for the chocolate! It’s my first time trying it! I’ll savor it!”

Dana attended the joint funeral for them. The bereaved clung to her and wept.

“Sob, sob,Saintess, thank you. Thank you for being with my son on his final journey.”

What’s there to thank me for?Dana didn’t do anything. In fact, she felt embarrassed. It was because Allice came here because of her. It felt like Allice was following her to get back at her out of spite.

“I’m sorry.” Dana clasped the hands of the bereaved. “I’m sorry I couldn’t protect them.”

Mark Kurs was imprisoned. And Count Kurs surprisingly showed a cold demeanor.

“That ungrateful b*stard is no longer my son. I will comply with whatever punishment Duke Windsor decides.”

A few days later, a telegram from Viego Windsor arrived.

[Hang Mark Kur’s head at the border.]

[And capture the barbarian spy]

Count Kurs was shocked by the telegram. “A barbarian spy? What could that mean?”

“What else could it mean.”

As expected, Viego had caught on with only the briefest information. Of course, he couldn’t have missed what Dana had noticed.

“Mark couldn’t have planned this alone.”

“There must be someone close to Mark who stirred up trouble in the territory and incited the barbarian invasion.”

“T-That can’t be!”

“Yes, exactly that.”

There’s no end to these tasks, no end at all.Is Viego planning to keep me rotting here? Why does he keep giving me tasks?Fortunately, Dana had already taken action before receiving that task.

Ah, right on time.

Priest Morius was being dragged in by Rumie, held by the scruff of his neck. He’s dragging him like a dog.

When their eyes met, Rumie grinned. “Dana. Here, take this.”

Stop handing the spy to me like a gift.

“I’m a priest of the Holy See! You can’t treat me like this!” His face was badly swollen, probably from a beating. “Aren’t you afraid of the Holy See!

“Aren’t you the one who should be afraid of the Holy See?”

Dana’s retort startled Priest Morius.

“W-What do you mean?”

“What do you think I mean?” Dana declared calmly. “It means your act has been exposed.”

Over the past three months, Mark Kurs had been acting as the lord, boldly acting out of line. But according to the merchants, he was a son who feared his father. Would such a son suddenly run wild like a madman the moment his father collapsed? It’s hard for someone to change overnight.Unless someone close was encouraging and inciting them, that is.

So I started by investigating Priest Morius, Mark’s closest confidant. She had asked the fastest and most well-connected merchant union to check with the Holy See. Just this morning, she’d received information from the Holy See.

[Priest Morius died of illness six months ago.]

“And that means you’ll be dragged off to the Holy See for the crime of impersonating a priest. You barbarian who worships demons.”

[The Holy See will soon send an inquisitor, so please detain the demon worshiper in Windsor territory.]

“Poor thing. No one has ever survived a trip to the Holy See’s torture chamber, have they?” Dana gave the terrified fake priest a bright smile. “Goodbye, fake priest.”

The man, who was looking up at her in astonishment, suddenly muttered. “You too.”

“You really think you’re the real one, huh.”

What was that supposed to mean?

Then he just laughed and clutched his stomach, saying nothing more. Had he lost his mind?

“He’s probably lost it at the thought of being tortured. Ignore him.” Count Kurs seemed to think so too, stepping in front of Dana with a displeased face. “What are you doing! Lock this barbarian spy up at once!”

Dana watched as he was dragged away, then shook her head.No need to worry. It didn’t matter what that man meant. She’ll be leaving soon anyway, once this possession ends.

Ah, finally. At least, all her tasks were done. Now it’s time to go back.To the Windsor mansion.

“It was quite enjoyable, Dana.”

When they arrived at the capital, Rumie got off the carriage. He bid her a gentle farewell.

“Thanks to you, I had a good time. Call me again if something fun comes up.”

“There won’t be a next time.”

Pretending not to hear my words, Rumie left.

Dana knew where he was headed. He’s going to the Rolland family.Rumie splits his time between the Windsor mansion and the Rolland mansion. This was because his maternal grandfather, Duke Rolland, doted on him.

“Welcome, Dana.”

When she arrived at Windsor mansion, the one who greeted her most warmly was Carl Windsor.

“You’ve been through a lot. It must have been hard, right?”

“I’m fine. How about you, Uncle? Have you been well?”

“Haha, of course.”

Liar. Anyone could see he’d been under a lot of stress. Carl’s jawline was sharper than before, as if he’d lost weight.

Well, it’s understandable to be stressed. It hadn’t been long since he was temporarily stripped of his position as the deputy head of the family. And now Allice, his daughter, had caused yet another huge incident.

So, Viego had decided.

“Let her reflect on her actions at the monastery.”

To send Allice to the monastery.

She got off lightly. People died in the territory because of her childish tantrum. And yet she only got sent to a monastery.

Allice would surely return soon enough. Her lover, the crown prince, would call for her when the time was right.

I wish everyone knew what Allice had done. But Viego Windsor put a stop to that. After all, it was a matter of the Windsor family’s reputation. If it became known that the direct descendant of Windsor had withdrawn the border troops and facilitated the barbarian invasion, Windsor’s honor would be in the dirt. So Viego used every method to keep this matter secret.

It was regrettable, but Dana decided not to dwell on it. She just hoped she wouldn’t get entangled with Allice again.

“By the way, Dana, did you know?”

“Viego has set up an office for you.”
