It had been a week since this article was published.
Dana closed the newspaper. Though a week had passed, she often reopened this newspaper to maintain her vigilance.
Carl killed him.Huan was supposedly sent to the court. She thought that would be the end of it…
“We must kill Huan.”
It unfolded just as Dana had seen in the memories of the future. Though the process had changed, Carl was likely the one who killed Huan. And to think he killed him in such a cruel way.
Dana shivered at Carl’s cruelty. He really was terrifying beneath his appearance.
Upon hearing the news, Sandra fell ill and hasn’t recovered since.
Carl Windsor. I thought he was a devoted husband, but it seems he wasn’t.Dana now fully realized the grave danger she had been in. Had she continued living like before, she might have been murdered.
That day—if Dana hadn’t overheard her uncle and aunt’s secret conversation. If only she hadn’t heard their plan to shorten her life.I would’ve died without a trace, just like Huan.
She needed to return to her original world soon. There were too many lunatics here. Staying might lead to her death by Carl’s hands. Dana kept the newspaper to remind herself of this.
Fortunately, discovering Raios and Allice’s affair was a blessing. All thanks to that letter. The anonymous letter that sent photos of Raios and Allice’s affair exposed them. Without it, Dana would still be a naive fool.
“Lethe, have you found the sender yet?”
Dana had tasked the investigation of the letter’s origin, but there was still no news.
“No. It wasn’t sent through the official post office, so it’s taking more time.”
“I see. Let me know when you find out.” Dana closed the newspaper.
Nonetheless, Dana achieved her goal. The chaos resulted in Carl Windsor being temporarily stripped of his deputy head position. She also fulfilled her promise to the emperor. The promise to turn moonlight flowers into rubbish. Now, moonlight flowers have become a mundane and worthless commodity.
But I can’t end my connection with the emperor yet.Dana needed to annul her engagement with Raios. Without annulling it, she couldn’t become the deputy head. Even if she pushed Carl from his position or earned Viego’s recognition, without annulling her engagement, the deputy head position and the holy relic would never be hers.
That’s why I need the emperor’s help to push for the annulment as well.
Thinking of the emperor made the back of her neck tingle. Dana wished to never encounter him again. But without his help, annulment was impossible. So, she needs to meet him quickly and negotiate…
I heard he’s at the Papacy now.
That was puzzling. The current pope was a prominent figure in the protestant. He and the emperor—who was clearly aligned with the Catholics—should have a very strained relationship. But what business did the emperor have there?
Anyway, I must visit him as soon as he returns.
In the meantime, Dana had tasks to do. It was about Viego Windsor. She needed to gain recognition from the head of the Windsor family. To impress him so she could climb to the deputy head position.
But why was it so hard to see Viego’s face? She hadn’t even had a chance to thank him properly. That night—if he hadn’t shot Huan in the arm—she might’ve been seriously in trouble…
“Today is Master Noah’s public promotion exam, isn’t it?”
So today was the day. Noah’s public promotion exam.I told him I’d go.
It was a few months ago.
“Noah, your promotion exam is public this year, right?”
“Why do you care? Mind your own business.”
Though Noah coldly replied at the time, Dana had persistently tried to speak kindly.
“I’ll definitely attend your public exam this year. I’ll bring you a bouquet.”
“No, don’t come. Even just imagining it is disgusting.”
“What kind of flowers do you like, Noah? If I remembercorrectly, you like daisies, right?”
“I hate whatever you give me.”
Dana chuckled involuntarily. How pathetically she had clung to him.
“I won’t go.” Dana stopped smiling and replied. “I’m too busy right now. Why should I go?”
Even if she went, Noah would just curse at her. She didn’t want to go through that kind of trouble anymore.
“Lethe, find out where Brother Viego is now.”
If he was avoiding her, fine.I’ll go to find him.
“Noah Windsor. Win!”
It was in the swordsmanship promotion exam. Noah Windsor had won the final round of the tournament. Cheers erupted from the audience.
“Noah Windsor. Win!”
The shooting exam was no different. Bullseye every time. Even from a distance, he could see clearly as if it was right in front of him.
“Noah Windsor. Win!”
The hand-to-hand combat exam was the same. Though slender, Noah easily took down students several times his size.
As expected. These public exams were honestly annoying. Since the public was allowed to watch, he felt like a monkey in the zoo.
Such a fuss.Even the cheers from the audience were irritating. Surely, that woman must be clapping from somewhere among them. Thinking that made him scoff. As if anyone would appreciate it.
She must be pleased. Since Sister Allice’s business failed, how happy she must be.
Noah scanned the audience. Though far away, with the Windsor family’s extraordinary vision, he could make out every face. He saw many familiar ones, but…
She wasn’t there.
Maybe she had stepped out for a moment?
But even after the award ceremony ended, Noah couldn’t find her.
“Noah, did your sister not come?” His classmate, Justin Lancaster, asked.
“My sister? Who?”
“Lady Danae Windsor. Didn’t she come?”
“How would I know?”
“She usually looks after you a lot, right?”
“I wish I could see her even from a distance…”
Noah frowned. To wish to see her sister from a distance? What is he, a fan?
“Why do you want to see my sister?”
“She’s pretty.” Justin clasped his hands together, a dreamy expression on his face. “Like a single white lily–pure, elegant, and even just standing there, she seems to have a story… Not that I’m only talking about her looks.”
Embarrassed, Justin cleared his throat. “Anyway, I once saw her purifying rotten land. I thought she was an angel. The pitch-black land turned white―” Realizing his blunder, Justin looked around hastily. “This stays between us, okay? Don’t tell the crown prince about it.”
“It doesn’t matter. He probably doesn’t care anymore. He’s smitten with Sister Allice now.”
“Oh. So that’s true? Then can I approach her?”
“…My sister is still the crown prince’s fiancée.”
“Ah. Right. They haven’t annulled their engagement.” Justin sighed regretfully. “Then I guess it won’t work. Let’s pretend I didn’t say anything. Don’t tell His Highness, okay?’
“Pfft.Lame.” Noah scoffed.
The funny thing was—guys like Justin weren’t rare. There were plenty who admired Danae Windsor from afar.
They’re all being fooled. Just like I was.
Suddenly, Noah remembered the first time he met Danae Windsor.
