“Thank you, Allice.”

Allice secretly hid Huan in a carriage and smuggled him into the mansion. There was only one reason for this.

Right, I can’t just send Uncle Huan away like this.

For reconciliation. For the family.

Yes. Surely, dad will regret having thrown uncle out once his anger subsides.

So, Allice has to prevent that from happening. It’s something only she can do. To mend the family’s rift. That’s something only kind and strong people can do.

I’m the only one who can do this in this house. With that thought, strength surged through Allice’s body. So much that she forgot the failure of the moonlight flower business.

And that wasn’t all. Wasn’t it none other than Huan who had orchestrated the plummet of moonlight flower prices? All she had to do was bring Huan back and expose him to everyone. Then, all his misdeeds would be revealed. The arrows of blame would all point at him.

Just imagining it made her heart ache, but that was the path of justice.

“Just trust me, Uncle.” Allice gripped Uncle Huan’s thick hand tightly, and her eyes sparkled. “Wait in my room for a bit. I’ll quickly bring dad or mom.”

“Alright, thank you, Allice,” Huan said with a grateful face. “I’ll wait here quietly.”

Of course, Huan did not wait quietly. As soon as Allice left, he immediately slipped out of the room.

My brother-in-law will throw me out again. No, that man might even kill him. He had said that if he saw him again, he’d kill him.

Huan knew exactly what Carl Windsor had been like during his military days. Back then, Carl had been brutal and merciless. He was infamous for chasing down retreating enemies just to decapitate them. Some even spread the malicious rumor that he enjoyed killing. In other words, Carl was the kind of man who might actually kill his brother-in-law!

No, this Huan can’t end like this!

There was still a way out. The love potion. If he could somehow make Danae drink it, all his failures would be erased. No—more than that, he’d reach the peak of his life. Gold and jewels he’d never touched before would pour in.

Yes. This is actually a stroke of luck. I, Huan, am destined for great things. I’m not someone to work under a mere brother-in-law.

With that in mind, he risked everything and headed to Danae’s bedroom. But then—

A servant’s voice echoed in the hallway!Huan quickly hid behind a pillar.

“I heard Lady Allice sold moonlight flowers to her friends.”

“Yeah, I heard too. She sold them at a tea party, taking money from her close friends.”

Luckily, the voices gradually faded away. They hadn’t noticed him.

What did I just hear?Huan’s lips twitched behind the pillar.

Allice, that foolish girl. Secretly selling moonlight flowers? After doing such a thing, she dared to mock him? What would happen if this fact became known?

Huan briefly considered punishing Allice but then abandoned the thought.No. Getting Danae is more important.

On tiptoe, he continued stealthily toward her bedroom. Miraculously, Huan didn’t bump into anyone on the way.Luck is on my side!

He quietly opened the door to Danae’s bedroom. Danae was standing at the window, gazing outside.

Just the sight of her graceful back made him drool.

“Don’t scream.” Huan pounced on her from behind, gripping her slender neck, and whispered. “If you scream, I’ll shoot you.” The hard gun was pressed against her lower back.

Huan could feel her delicate body trembling. That sent a thrill through him. He should’ve done this earlier.

Danae was just a woman. A woman he could overpower. He had taken too many detours to come here!

“You should’ve not ignored my love, Danae.”

Still aiming the gun, Huan hastily searched his pocket—for the love potion.

“Playing with a man’s heart led to this. You shouldn’t have mocked my love!”

Damn, where’s the bottle! The small bottle of potion was not easy to find.

“Love? Please.” Dana retorted. “You’re after my wealth, but you dare to call it love?”

“Shut your mouth! How dare a wench talk back to her heavenly husband like this!” Huan angrily pressed the gun barrel harder against her back. He thought she would be scared by now. But—

“Heavenly husband… Dream on.”

Laughing?Huan stopped searching for the bottle and looked down at Dana’s head.Did she just laugh?

Is this girl mocking me?

“You think I can’t shoot you?”

Dana then looked up at him with a sly smile. “Yes.” She narrowed her eyes into a smile. “Because you’re a coward.”

“Do you have the guts to shoot? Are you confident about handling the aftermath?”

Huan’s cheek twitched. He was being looked down on by a much younger girl. Completely disregarded by a girl young enough to be his niece. Just like the countless families, women, and people who had ignored him!

“You!” Something in his mind snapped. “You damned b*tch, how dare you ignore me!” Blinded by rage, he roughly grabbed Dana’s hair with one hand. “I can kill you! Even without a gun, I can kill a weak woman like you!”

Huan gripped her hair even tighter as if to demonstrate his strength. Dana winced in pain. This gave him a perverse sense of pleasure.

See that? I’m strong. I can easily overpower a mere wench like you!

“You’re the worst.”

Dana’s next words were laced with mocking laughter.

“You have nothing to boast about except brute strength. And even that, only against weaker women.”

“What did you say?”

“And you look so proud about it too, Huan Rolland.” Danae looked straight at him and laughed. “If I were you, I’d be so embarrassed I’d shoot myself in the head.”

Huan completely lost it. He yanked her hair mercilessly and pressed the cold barrel of the gun hard against her temple.I should just shoot her right now!

It was at that moment of impulse.Bang!A gunshot echoed from somewhere far away.

Huan froze momentarily. What was that sound?

The realization came a moment too late.Drip, drip.Blood spurting from his shoulder made him aware. That he had been shot.

Then, bang! Another faint gunshot, precisely hitting the same spot.

Two bullets drilled into the exact spot. The pain was like bones burning in fire. That excruciating pain made Huan collapse on the spot.

It hurts. It hurts. It’s so painful. It feels like my arm is being torn off.

Huan gasped for air, hunched over. What? What was that? Where did the bullet come from? We’re high up. There’s nothing outside the window.

There was a window in the building across from this one, far in the distance.

Could someone have shot from that distance? And hit the same spot twice?

That was Huan’s final thought. He fainted out right there.
