After showering and changing into clean clothes, Aden marched up to the seventh floor, where he knew Ilyin would be.
Standing in front of the door, he quickly composed himself.
Smelling the faint smell of summer, which lingered in the hallway, seemed to calm him down and he took a deep breath before knocking and asked:
“Are you there?”
“Please come in.” His voice sounded weak.
Aden's breathing had evened out, but his calm hid an inner turmoil, he suppressed his thoughts and opened the door.
***
The door opened and Aden turned off the lights.
Ilyin felt momentarily blind and blinked in surprise.
She couldn't see anything, even with her eyes open and straining them, she was able to make out her silhouette in the dim light of the hallway.
She could see his shadow and his hand as he closed the door before the room was enveloped in darkness.
“You’re back early.” Ilyin spoke first.
She had seen him returning earlier while she was sitting at the window feeling anxious.
The avalanche was large enough that people on the property felt the tremors.
The Delrose knights, who followed their leader closely, didn't seem injured and she felt a wave of relief.
Their leader, Aden, entered the mansion at great speed and it was then that Ilyin ordered the maids out of his room.
“You seem to have expected my visit.”
Ilyin knew Aden would be curious about how she knew about the avalanche.
This thought crossed her mind when she gave him the warning, but she couldn't stand by and just watch him get buried in the snow, her husband took good care of her and the servants' attitude towards her changed because of him.
Her dreams were not a secret that she hid from everyone, but Viscount Arlen told her to keep quiet about the insane curses coming out of Ilyin's mouth that she dreamed about.
She has remained silent ever since, because no one believed her and she was afraid that the Duke wouldn't believe it either.
She thought of her husband, who was meticulous when it came to his day-to-day affairs.
He must know about Ilyin now or at least about how she was treated in his home.
While their father hid it as if it were a deadly secret, the Arlens weren't as capable of keeping their mouths shut and they had little experience with hiding information in the first place.
Aden may even know about Ilyin predicting Sid's death.
However, she was convinced that he would not believe her, she looked out the window and spoke in a trembling voice:
“I saw you coming through the window.”
Sitting on the bed, she heard Aden's breathing, which sounded heavy and she wondered if he was angry or if he was in a hurry to get to her.
Ilyin shivered and although he had no reason to be angry, the sounds in the darkness brought unnecessary thoughts to her.
“So you know what I’m curious about.” he said.
“Um…” Ilyin had planned to tell him about her dream as she thought Aden wouldn’t treat her words as complete nonsense after he saw the avalanche with his own eyes.
Her reason told her that would be the case, but she was struggling to accept the idea that he might as well listen to her with an open mind.
She hadn't acted suspiciously until now and had been a quiet bride on the outside.
If her dream hadn't revealed that Aden and his knights would be buried in snow, she might very well have ignored it.
Ilyin realized that she was afraid of being rejected and treated differently if she revealed her ability to predict things and if one person treated her differently the rumors would spread like wildfire, as had happened on Arlen's small estate.
She imagined the terrible position she would be in if that happened here in the Winterlands.
“Can't you tell me?” His low voice hurt Ilyin as he looked angry.
“I believe Your Grace already knows,” she spoke slowly, as she did not want to tell him directly about her dream.
MyHouse: MY GOD.
JUST SAY SOON “I dream about the future and I stopped you from turning into ice cream”.
The guy has treated you better in just a short time than your entire family has in I don't know how many years.
